MISSION & PURPOSE

The mission of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO) Committee on Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) is to provide a forum to share ideas, review the state-of-the-art practices, discuss current issues, and develop and analyze policy recommendations to facilitate the improvement of the TSMO programs of the WASHTO member organizations. The Committee may also provide a forum for interstate TSMO collaboration, develop partnerships for pilot projects, and connect committee members to TSMO subject matter experts in other organizations and entities.

AUTHORITIES

The TSMO Committee is chartered under the Constitution, Bylaws, and Committee Guidelines of WASHTO as published on the WASHTO website at: https://www.washto.org/about/governance/

OVERALL OBJECTIVES

1. Create a new committee covering Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) under the WASHTO Constitution, Bylaws, and Committee Guidelines.
2. To leverage TSMO initiatives to support a high quality of life in the western region through enhancements in the critical areas of safety, reliability and resiliency, system efficiency, access and mobility choice, stakeholder coordination, integration of systems and strategies, and network security.
3. To focus on an ongoing, iterative process that evaluates strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) to meet changing system demands, user needs and preferences, and advancements in technology.
